What for many is their daily work, for you could be a genuine adventure

The life of fishermen is extremely tough. Early starts; cold, wet weather; never being certain about whether the day will be profitable. That’s why many of us find fishing so intriguing and admire those who dedicate their lives to it. And behind all this hard work there is an adventure waiting to be discovered, which everyone should try at least once.

If you’ve always been fascinated by the sea; if the life and work of fishermen fills you with curiosity; if you’d jump at the chance to experience it up close, in a way you’ll never forget, you can become a fisherman or fisherwoman for a day.

Set out for the sea to see in person how fishermen work. Watch how they sell the fish in the market. These activities – routine tasks for the fishermen – will help you learn about and understand what is one of humanity’s oldest professions

But you’ll also be able to take part in a workshop, where you can make a tasty seafood dish with your own hands, or learn the clues that tell you whether a fish is fresh. Or you could discover the art of preparing Málaga’s archetypal dish, espeto de sardinas, in which sardines are spit-roasted over a barbecue.

Even if you’re simply looking to feel the fresh sea air on your skin and enjoy the pleasure of travelling by boat. We’ll take you to the ocean to discover what artisan fishing and the lives of its fisherman are really like, in an activity that your little ones will find particularly appealing.

Visiting some of these fishing boats really is an unforgettable experience, captained by those who know most about the various fishing systems in use, and the most common species of fish in the Mediterranean. You can also learn about the day-to-day experiences on a fishing boat, told by the fishermen themselves.

We offer this experience in the fishing harbours along the coast of Málaga province. Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Caleta de Vélez…

The fish market (with live auctions in the afternoon), the dry dock, the pier, the lighthouse… All these areas are crucial parts of a port for the fishing profession.

Within the port itself, you can try a workshop teaching you about the quality and freshness of fish, in which a fishing professional will help you discover some of the secrets and the most important features of fresh fish. The activity includes a tasting session of home-made seafood empanada [a large, flat pie with a pastry or bread crust]. This is a once-in-a-lifetime experience with the ocean as a spectacular backdrop.
